Based on the finite element method, the authors develop a general semi-discrete method for buckling analysis of thin-walled compression members with arbitrary cross-section. To simulate the displacements on the segments of the cross-section, they use a modified \(B_3\)-spline function. Three examples, where the results are compared with the results from classical theory and a commercial finite element program, give a short impression how the method works.
