A mixed Poisson process is a Poisson process on \((0,\infty)\) whose intensity is a random variable \(\Lambda\). The authors call the distribution of \(\Lambda\) the ``structure distribution'' and give inversion formulas expressing this distribution in terms of distributions relating to the observed points of the process itself. The empirical versions of these formulas provide estimators of the structure distribution.
