A method is presented to incorporate the local buckling behavior of line pipe, determined from three-dimensional large deformational elastic-plastic shell analysis, into an interactive soil-structure beam model of a pipeline. The finite element model for the analysis of the pipe as a shell is described, and the influence of various load combinations is examined.
