The author investigates a simple mathematical model of physiological processes of race running. The above model is described by a system of two differential equations with the velocity and the energy of a runner as the state variables. The optimal control strategy to run a prescribed distance in least time is looking for. The solution based on Pontryagin maximum principle is given.
