The present work consists in a systematic exploration of the dynamics in mean motion resonances and is original in at least three aspects: 1. in developing a general theory, based on the use of action-angle variables, which can be applied to any isolated mean motion resonance in the main asteroid belt; 2. in taking into account also the inclination of the asteroid (three-dimensional model) and avoiding expansions in the eccentricity; 3. in taking into account the secular perturbations introduced by the Jupiter-Saturn system.
