An intrinsic Hamiltonian formalism for gauge theory of principal connections on a principal bundle is developed, in terms of Hamiltonian jet fields. Applications to analytic mechanics, Yang-Mills theory, spontaneous symmetry breaking and to gravitation theory are presented.
