The paper considers a single server which alternates between a batch service queue and an individual service queue. The service times are generally distributed with the batch service queue having two phases of service, the first following a non-gated protocol and the second a gated protocol. After a customer is served at the batch service queue it joins the end of the individual service queue. By considering the total sojourn times as the sum of random variables representing different aspects of the time a customer spends in the system, the mean sojourn time is calculated using different techniques for each random variable.
