The author shows a deformation result for metrics \(g_0,g_1\) of positive Ricci curvature whose 1-jets coincide on a submanifold \(Y\). Namely, there is a metric of positive Ricci curvature which coincides with \(g_0\) near \(Y\) and which coincides with \(g_1\) outside a small tubular neighbourhood of \(Y\). The explicit construction generalizes an earlier construction of \textit{L. Z. Gao} [Construction of negatively Ricci curved metrics, Math. Ann. 271, 185-209 (1985; Zbl 0542.53024)].
