The paper presents the implementation of discrete-time linear quadratic regulator and linear quadratic Gaussian controllers for a flywheel energy storage system. This rotordynamic system incorporates a radial hybrid permanent magnetic bearing. Numerical and experimental results show that both controllers are capable of regulating the position of the flywheel.
