Let us consider two semigroups of kernels on measurable Radon spaces, with absolutely continuous associated resolvents. It is proved that each separately excessive function is excessive with respect to the product semigroup. This generalizes a classical result of \textit{R. Cairoli} [in: Sém. Probab. I, Univ. Strasbourg 1966/67, 18-33 (1967; Zbl 0178.20604)] established for strongly Feller semigroups.
