The book deals with the theoretical background of predictive control approaches for complex systems, as well, as for application of developed control methods to batch reactors. It is an interesting position for a reader who wants to understand fundamentals of hybrid systems and methods for their modeling and control. The authors present a number of methods for modeling hybrid systems with the main emphasis paid on piecewise affine and hybrid fuzzy models. These two approaches have been then applied to modeling of batch reactors. This part of book is especially valuable for practitioners interested in modern modeling and identification methods. There are provided also control schemes using piecewise models, fuzzy models or genetic algorithms. Each presented control algorithm is illustrated by simulation examples of batch reactors. Although each example contains control quality or computation complexity issues, there would be highly welcome a discussion of stability and robustness of proposed solutions. The book is dedicated to both researchers and practitioners working on advanced control methods for complex systems who are interested in the application of soft computing methods in the framework of predictive control.
