The article investigates the overlap of the concepts of abstract polytopes and eulerian partially ordered sets. A section regular eulerian abstract polytope is spherical if its rank is odd, and locally spherical if its rank is even. Also studied are possible characterizations of equivelar eulerian polytopes of rank greater than 3, including in particular quotients of cubes or toroids; all equivelar 3-polytopes are eulerian.
