This is a survey article describing possibilities to pass some homological information via functors involved in generalizations of Schur-Weyl dualities. These possibilities are usually controlled by a homological invariant called `dominant dimension'. The paper introduces the reader to all concepts, describes various known results in the area and illustrates them by explicit examples.
