The new notion of essentiality of isolated fixed points of graph approximable set-valued maps is introduced and studied. The essentiality is characterized in terms of the fixed point index and the Lefschetz number. As an illustration some issues concerning the existence of the so-called discretely essential subharmonics of a dissipative differential inclusion are discussed.
