The authors give a rather general method of construction for ordered planar nearfields which covers most (but not all) of the known examples. Let \(D\) be an ordered commutative field, \(\Gamma\) an ordered abelian group, and \(L:=H(\Gamma,D)\) the field of formal power-series. The nearfields are then constructed by means of coupled maps using o-automorphisms of \(L\) and o-couplings of \(\Gamma\).
