The author studies a class of particle systems which includes finite- range spin systems and combinations of those systems with stirring processes. Sufficient conditions are given for the ergodicity of the processes. The methods of proof use a ``generalized graphical representation''. The approach applies to ``reaction-diffusion processes'', which arise in the derivation of hydrodynamical equations of reaction-diffusion type.
