This paper shows that the nonlinear ABS algorithm of \textit{J. Abaffy}, \textit{A. Galantai} and \textit{E. Spedicato} [Numer. Math. 51, 429-439 (1987; Zbl 0609.65038)] can be viewed as inexact Newton method [cf. \textit{R. S. Dembo}, \textit{S. C. Eisenstat} and \textit{T. Steihaug}, SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 19, 400-408 (1982; Zbl 0478.65030)]. From this point of view, the truncated nonlinear ABS algorithm is established and its convergence property is discussed.
