Let R be a function field of genus g over the finite field with q elements. The author is interested in the number of places of R of degree one. In certain cases, for \(q=2,3,4\), he obtains a bound slightly better than the Weil bound. Also a new relation connecting the multiplicities of the places as zeros of the differentials of first kind is given.
