We give a variant approach to the theory of localization in abelian categories. As an application, it is shown that, if R is a left and right coherent ring of dominant dimension at least two, then the double R-dual functor induces a localization of the category of coherent left R- modules. In particular, a left and right noetherian ring of dominant dimension at least two is artinian.
