The first exit time problem for the linear cable equation with white noise current input at a fixed point is studied. A system of partial differential equations for the moments of the first exit time is derived using Fourier decomposition. For the solution of these equations the approximation by the first two components is devised. The results obtained by perturbation and numerical methods are compared with those obtained by Monte Carlo simulation. An extensive numerical analysis on physiologically interpretable parameters illustrates the discussed methods.
