We investigate the problem of the displacement of the interface between two linear viscoelastic media under the influence of a transient incident pulse. An exact solution is given for the case when the incident signal is a Dirac delta-function, while asymptotic expressions are developed for a more complicated case. It is shown that the interface displacement may differ greatly in form from the incident signal.
