A plant with scalar transfer function g(s) is given. The typical question is: do there exist three robust stabilizing compensators k(s), \(k_ 1(s)\), \(k_ 2(s)\) such that \(k(s)=k_ 1(s)+k_ 2(s)?\) The answer is as follows: for the existence of such a triplet it is necessary and sufficient that g(s) is stabilizable by a stable compensator. Some modifications of this problem are also considered.
