The domain optimization algorithm for the free boundary problem of the obstacle type is presented in the paper, in which the coincidence set is considered as the prime unknown. Special domain functionals are defined for which the coincidence set serves as the minimizing element. Gradients of these functionals are then computed, and the gradient descent method is used to minimize these functionals. A numerical example for the method is given.
