This article studies case b) in the preceding review for immersions instead of embeddings: Let N be a compact manifold and \(f: N\to \bar M\) a hypersurface immersion into a Riemannian manifold \(\bar M\) equipped with a global unit normal vector field. Main result: There are immersions \(\tilde f:\) \(N\to \bar M\) with positive mean curvature which are arbitrarily close to f in the \(C^ 0\)-topology (and regularly isotopic to f, if dim N is even).
