A collocation method for heat conduction problems is described using cubic or bicubic spline functions in space for one- and two-dimensional problems, resp. Discretization in time is achieved for the latter by a strategy similar to the ADI-scheme. Numerical tests are reported including examples from continuous steel casting and a Stefan problem connected with the solidification of alloys.
