An alternative to difficult stochastic identification is to employ the theory of adaptive identifiers. In that approach the uncertain state and model parameters are approximated by an auxiliary system called identifiers whose state and parameter values converge ultimately to those of the model. The theory, at present, is linear and identifies constant parameters. Convergence is achieved in the paper by securing some type of Liapunov stability. Problems arising from the type \(q''+F(q,q')+G(q)=H(q',w,t)\) are studied.
