Some static problems for the nonlinear elastic string (Q761840)

The authors consider a series of problems concerning the nonlinear elastic string. Results of \textit{R. W. Dickey} [Bifurcation problems in nonlinear elasticity (1976; Zbl 0335.73012); SIAM J. Appl. Math. 17, 172-178 (1969; Zbl 0194.264)] are examined and extended. Stability of solutions is discussed. A comparison between the exact nonlinear theory and the approximate theory of Föppl is also discussed. The paper is carefully written, containing considerable details. Examples are presented. The paper should be of interest and use to both theoreticians and engineers concerned with elastic strings.
