In this work, the author considers the complete system of equations describing general extensional flow of the eight constant Oldroyd fluid model. Of the two parameters characterizing general extensional flows, he takes one (m) to be constant while the other (\({\dot \epsilon}\)) can vary with time. Stress growth is then examined with the objective of generating conditions under which these stresses attain steady values. Such conditions are obtained for the particular cases of uniaxial, equibiaxial and planar elongational flows. Creep is then investigated for a restricted model and the possible loss of symmetry is briefly discussed. In assessing this work one should be aware of the rather limited use of this viscoelastic model. Consequently, the present investigation of the system of equations describing this model is of greater theoretical importance. The paper itself is well written.
