The author in some preliminary paragraphs describes the origin and development of Bourbaki. The main part of the article consists of an interview with Claude Chevalley (\(\dag 1984)\), one of the foundation members of the Bourbaki group. Chevalley gives his views of the inventions, and organisation of the writers of the texts. He observes that the first drafts were never accepted and that final drafts required unanimous agreement. The interview touches on Chevalley's philosophical and political views in relation to his participation in Bourbaki.
