In this paper we give a short proof of a result of \textit{D. E. Wulbert} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 235, 165-181 (1978; Zbl 0369.46018)], characterizing complex \(L^ 1\)-preduals that are isometric to a self- adjoint subspace of C(X,\({\mathbb{C}})\). We also give an example to show that the real part of an \(L^ 1\)-predual subspace of C(X,\({\mathbb{C}})\) need not be an \(L^ 1\)-predual.
