Summary: By considering Melham's sums \textit{R. S. Melham} [Fibonacci Q. 42, No. 1, 47--54 (2004; Zbl 1060.11008)], we compute various more general nonalternating sums, alternating sums, and sums that alternate according to \((-1)^{\begin{pmatrix} n+1\\2 \end{pmatrix}}\) involving the generalized Fibonacci and Lucas numbers.
