The author provides a description of the possible inertias of real symmetric matrices with a given tridiagonal symmetric sign pattern. The general problem for any partitioned tridiagonal Hermitian matrix was considered by the reviewer [JIPAM, J. Inequal. Pure Appl. Math. 5, No. 3, Paper No. 56, 9 p. (2004; Zbl 1057.15025)]. Regrettably, the author does not mention it.
