The authors give two generalizations of Goppa codes as quaternary codes. The first is as a particular case of Andrade's and Palazzo's definition and the second is an alternate definition of their own attempting to be closer to Goppa's original definition. They then present a McEliece type cryptosystem using quaternary Goppa codes.
