The paper is concerned with a sequence of positive linear operators introduced by \textit{V. Gupta} [Some examples of genuine approximation operators, Gen. Math. 26, 3--10 (2018)]. The operators act on functions defined on the positive semi-axis and preserve the linear functions. The author establishes recurrence relations for the operators and for their central moments and gives quantitative results concerning the rate of convergence. A Gruess type Voronovskaya theorem is presented. In the last section, differences of two operators with the same basis function are investigated.
