    The paper discusses the large scale asymmetries (lopsided galaxies) of galaxies and the question of the maintenance of the lopsided appearance. A continuum mechanics method has been adopted. The important assumption made is that the direction of the principal axes of the peculiar motion ellipse distribution is different from the radial direction of the galaxies.
