The paper deals with establishing sound boundary conditions for the time split method of \textit{R. M. Beam} and \textit{R. F. Warming} for the 2- dimensional flow of a two-component gas mixture [Comput. fluid Dyn., SIAM-AMS Proc. Vol. XI, Symp. New York City 1977, 85-129 (1978; Zbl 0392.65038); AIAA J. 16, 393-402 (1978; Zbl 0374.76025)]. The problem is to express the intermediate solution in terms of the final solution and the final solution in terms of the intermediate solution at the boundaries. Wall boundaries and outflow boundaries are treated. The main tools are linearizations by extrapolation in time and by truncated Taylor series. There are reported numerical results for the intake and compression stroke of a reciprocating piston engine.
