An age-dependent population model which takes into account also the possible gestation period is studied as an application of a local two parameter bifurcation theorem on periodic solutions of a non linear system of partial integro-differential equations. It is shown that for a sufficiently narrow age-specific reproductive and resource consumption window, steady state instabilities, accompanied by sustained time periodic oscillations occur when the birth modulus surpasses a critical value.
