A nonparametric procedure using the multiple Fourier series is presented and examined. Conditions for the weak and strong Bayes risk consistency are given, and the rates at which the probability of misclassification converges to the Bayes probability of error are presented. As opposed to their earlier paper, IEEE Trans. Syst. Man Cybern. SMC-11, 726-730 (1981; Zbl 0468.62036), the authors use learning sequences of random lengths to estimate class distributions.
