Fast parallel and sequential computations and spectral properties concerning band Toeplitz matrices (Q795471)

The authors extend their results for symmetric and real matrices [Spectral and computational properties of band symmetric Toeplitz matrices, Linear Algebra Appl. (to appear, 1984)] to non-symmetric complex as well as Hermitian matrices. They give computational methods for evaluating the determinant and eigenvalues (Newton's method with root deflation technique) of band Toeplitz matrices. The methods are based in part on separating the informational content from the structure of the given matrices. Three of five-diagonal matrices are analysed.
