    The papers presented were selected from abstracts submitted from all over the world by three papers selection committees, one in the U.S.A., another in the U.S.S.R., and the third in Europe. The papers selection commitees were headed by M. Holt (U.S.A.), N. N. Yanenko (U.S.S.R.), and the editor. Abbreviated versions of the papers were distributed at the conference. The detailed papers are given in this volume. Included are the invited lectures by \textit{W. F. Ballhaus,} Computational aerodynamics and design (1-20); \textit{P. I. Chushkin} and \textit{L. V. Shurshalov}, Numerical computations of explosions in gases (21-42); \textit{P. Moin,} numerical simulation of wall-bounded turbulent shear flows (55- 76); \textit{K. Gersten}, Two-dimensional separated flows (43-54); \textit{K. W. Morton}, Shock capturing, fitting and recovery (77-93); \textit{K. Oshima} and \textit{Y. Oshima}, Flow simulation by discrete vortex method (94-106) and 65 contributed papers. The papers were presented in nine sessions, which were entitled: Solution of the Navier-Stokes equations, Solution of the Euler equations, Accuracy of Euler solutions, Gas dynamics, Transonic flows, Transitional and turbulent flows, Internal flows, Flows with strong rotation, and Boundary layers.
