Minimax approximation on [\(\alpha\),\(\beta]\) of \(f(x)=B(x)g(x)\) (where \(g>0\), g continuous) by \(B(x)[r(x)]^ p\), where p is a fixed positive number and r is any positive element of the ordinary rational family \(R^ n_ m[\alpha,\beta]\), is considered. This is a generalization of a study of J. Williams and closely related to a study of D. Schmidt.
