A method is presented for eigenvalue assignment in multi-input linear systems by means of state feedbacks. The method consists of four algorithms: Algorithm 1 reduces the given system to an upper block Hessenberg form. Algorithm 2 performs partial reduction of the state matrix of the upper block Hessenberg form by means of state feedback and orthogonal state coordinate transformation. Algorithm 3 carries out a permutation of the rows (columns) of the resulting system matrices. Algorithm 4 performs eigenvalue assignment in single-input systems. The numerical properties of the methods are discussed in detail.
