New and elementary matrix theoretic proofs are given for two well-known theorems. It is proved that for a nonnegative matrix A, \(\rho (A+D)\) and ln \(\rho\) \((e{}^ DA)\) are convex functions in D, where D is a diagonal matrix and \(\rho\) (B) denotes the spectral radius.
