This paper contains a nonrelativistic (''... much simpler than in general relativity...'') attempt for building a mechanical theory in which the following assertion is valid in the mass reduced frame: ''If \(P_ 2\) is subject to a force field which admits a generalized potential and describes a plane orbit, then this orbit is a conic section and the quasi-Newtonian force law holds''. \(P_ 1\) and \(P_ 2\) are material points (two bodies), and the quasi-Newtonian force is a Newtonian central force to which a velocity dependent force of little magnitude is added.
