The semigroup associated to the porous media equation is constructed on the space \(L^ 1({\mathbb{R}}^ N)\) by using a strongly continuous cosine family of operators on this space. Formally, this corresponds to the discretization in the spatial variable. The main result provides a numerical approach of such a semigroup.
