Six problems arising in the study of wave propagation in a thermoelastically coupled half space are considered. The strain, temperature, stress and particle velocity are obtained and compared for the six problems when both time and distance are large. The ratio of the stress to the particle velocity, (the characteristic impedance), is found to be the same for all six problems.
