    Approximate solutions are obtained, using asymptotic methods, of the problem of optimum design of cylindrical shells of variable thickness, of minimum weight for fixed natural oscillation frequencies in the axisymmetric and non-axisymmetric cases. Qualitative patterns of the thickness distribution for optimum solutions are obtained and analyzed.
