Let G be a separable, locally profinite (i.e. locally compact and totally disconnected) group with centre Z, and L an open subgroup of G containing Z such that L/Z is compact. This note contains some general results about the structure of representations of G induced from irreducible representations of L. Especially the case of nonirreducible induced representations is considered. The results are applied to p-adic reductive groups.
