The construction of the Bäcklund transformations via gauge transformations for integrable systems is discussed. Differential equations for gauge transformations give rise to the Riccati equations for homogeneous coordinates of the wave functions. In some cases, the Bäcklund transformations are associated with automorphisms of the underlying Lie algebra. The Bäcklund transformations for the modified Lax equations are constructed. The generalized wave equation is also discussed.
