The author who is a physiologist at the university of Leipzig draws some conclusions from the well-known fact, that Lie died from a pernicious anaemia in 1899. This disease which was not curable at that time (one may add, in contrast to Hilbert's case in the 1920 years) causes somatopsychic changes in up to fifty percent of the patients. The author uses this fact to explain Lie's furious attacks on his collaborator Friedrich Engel (1861-1941) and on his former friend Felix Klein.
